Photography 101 — Home

Those of you who have been reading my blog for awhile know I just bought a nice digital camera and really want to learn how to use it. To that end, I joined WordPress’ Photography 101. Rather than start a new blog to post them on I decided to post them here.

Today’s assignment was to take a picture that symbolizes home to us. I chose to photograph one of my birds.

The first time I realized my birds gave me a sense of home was in 2009. Fargo was facing catastrophic flooding. There was talk of maybe having to evacuate the whole city. I was terrified that the power would go off and my birds would freeze to death or I would have to leave them to be evacuated. Eventually, I discovered the zoo was hosting a temporary sanctuary for small exotic animals like mine. I sent my whole flock to the zoo for 10 days. During the time they were gone it was so hard to come home to my empty house. When the flock finally came back, my house felt like home again.

  1. Thank you. I have a Canon Rebel T5. It is the first digital camera I have ever owned. I am still in the very early stages of learning how to use it. It came bundled with a macro and zoom lenses and a camera bag. I pad just about $500 for it. I love it to pieces. Julie
